A Roofer’s Diary: What Really Happens on Roofing Day

6:30 AM – Load Up and Roll Out

Crews gather at the shop, check the weather, load materials. Coffee in hand, we head out before most of the city wakes up.

7:30 AM – Site Prep

We tarp landscaping, set up ladders, and walk the roof to reassess safety. The customer gets a quick walkthrough.

8:00 AM – Tear-Off

The old shingles come off fast. It’s loud, dirty, and full of surprises—like rotted decking or old satellite dishes.

9:30 AM – Decking Repairs

Any bad wood gets replaced. We photograph damage for the homeowner or their insurance.

11:00 AM – Underlayment & Flashing

Now we lay the protective layer and install drip edge and flashing. Everything has to be tight—we’re building your shield.

1:00 PM – Shingle Installation

This is where it starts to look like a new roof. Shingles go on row by row with precise nail placement and ridge alignment.

3:30 PM – Ventilation & Final Touches

Ridge vents, pipe boots, and final caulking. We sweep the yard with magnets to catch any stray nails.

5:00 PM – Walkthrough & Clean-Up

The crew walks the job with the homeowner, explaining what was done. We don’t leave until they’re satisfied.

Roofing might look like just hammering shingles, but it’s a coordinated, technical process with safety, planning, and craftsmanship at every step.
